Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 1 has finally turned the game into something fans and veteran hunters truly wanted. With the addition of a Gathering Hall, more monsters, and a challenging roster of endgame hunts, the future's looking bright for Wilds.
Now, with Arch-Tempered Rey Dau unleashed as the game’s first truly tough hunt, I find myself craving more battles like it. These are the kinds of monster hunts that should define Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame standard.
Why? Well…
Arch-Tempered Monsters Are Peak Battles
Arch-Tempered Monsters are the beefiest versions of monsters we’ve seen so far. One would say they’re as lore accurate when it comes to threat level. They have larger health pools and hit much harder, and honestly, it would be better if Capcom made these versions part of the main game, rather than locking them behind limited-time events. Fighting base monsters in under 10 minutes just kills the suspense and thrill.
They even come with new moves, just like Monster Hunter World/Iceborne did with Arch-Tempered Velkhana and Namielle. In Wilds’ case, Rey Dau’s Arch-Tempered form throws out more electric surges, turning every fight into chaos with railgun-like strikes going off constantly.
These battles feel like life-or-death situations for your hunter. Every item you’ve stockpiled such as Mega Demondrugs, Mega Armorskins, and your best loadouts finally matters. It’s where strategy and gear come together perfectly.
Resistant to Wounds
What I love most about these Arch-Tempered fights is how resistant the monsters are to wounds. Remember when I said wounds made Monster Hunter Wilds a bit too easy? It feels like Capcom heard us. These monsters don’t go down so easily. You won’t see the usual red indicator signaling a Focus Attack opportunity. Instead, you’ll have to carefully target their tempered wounds, and that takes time…and risk.
More Arch-Tempered on the Way
Capcom has confirmed that more Arch-Tempered monsters are on the horizon, and I’m genuinely excited to see the rest of the Apex roster get the same treatment. Imagine an AT version of Nu Udra turning into an even deadlier flaming octopus, or Uth Duna flopping its massive belly around to crush Hunters. Don’t even get me started on Jin Dahaad or Zoh Shia.
Difficulty seems to be Capcom’s focus for the next update this May, alongside a bunch of other exciting content. Title Update 2 will also bring back Lagiacrus and introduce the much-anticipated Layered Weapons system.
