Lies of P will get a difficulty setting with the next update. The new DLC, Overture, will come with a variety of options, including one that will let players toggle the difficulty.
Lies of P: Overture will give fans of the surprise Souls-like title a story that, according to previews, will roughly last 15-20 hours. It will add three new weapons (Gunblade, Talon Claws, and the Royal Bow), new bosses, enemies, and areas to explore. On top of that, players will get to tackle a variety of challenges like a boss rush mode called Death March (select three bosses to fight back to back), two unique boss challenges, and a feature called Battle Memories, which will let you face any previously defeated boss on higher difficulty tiers.
It all sounds incredibly exciting, but perhaps something purists of the genre will come to dislike is the fact that it's adding a difficulty setting. It's not only for the DLC, as reports state the option will come to the base game as part of a free update.
Accessibility is always welcomed. But at the heart of a good Souls-like experience is figuring out how to best tackle a boss. After trial and error, eventually, come up with solutions and have the dexterity to execute your plan.
For many, giving players any sort of leniency will tarnish (no pun intended) the experience. Granted, you'll likely be able to make it harder as well, but the entry barrier could be lowered to allow more inexperienced players a chance to enjoy a very atmospheric game like Lies of P.
In any case, from the developers' perspective, allowing Lies of P players to make the game easier (or harder) means that a wider variety of users will be incentivized to give the game a shot.
Lies of P: Overture is set to be released at some point during the summer. No official release date has been shared by Neowiz or Round8 Studio.
