Is Fortnite copying Helldivers 2? Well, at first glance, that may be the case. For Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, the latest season of Epic's battle royale "feels very democratic."
To put you up to speed in case you don't follow the current state of Fortnite, Chapter 6 Season 4 just kicked off this past August 8. It introduced a new horde of bug enemies invading the island, as well as mechanics that feel eerily similar to Helldivers 2. Players can destroy giant bosses to earn ranks that will grant them drops of loot, and defend certain outposts from the ongoing bug invasion.
Sound familiar? While it's not a new concept created by Helldivers 2, the aesthetics also have players directly correlating both titles. And as mentioned, even the Arrowhead CEO chimed in. While his answer was very tame, the Arrowhead Studios community manager, Baskinator, did call the new Fortnite season a "we have Helldivers at home" type of season.
They later added: "If the kings of video game drip think our drip is cool enough to inspire them then that’s super cool. But our games couldn’t be more different from one another. There’s room for us all at the king’s table."
In all honesty, Fortnite and Epic Games are not ones to beat around the bush when it comes to collaborations, at least not anymore. Old veterans remember the legally distinct John Wick skin before Epic reached an agreement with the actual IP owners to add Keanu Reeves into the game.
By the looks of it, this doesn't seem to be a situation where Epic reached out to Arrowhead and didn't manage to strike a deal. Rather, it was an unfortunate coincidence considering one of the major themes of the season revolves around the Power Rangers being in Fortnite.
A bug infestation sounds exactly like the type of situation Tommy Oliver and the rest of the Rangers are more than capable of handling.
