When Hades 2 was announced for the Switch 2, it was hard not to feel excited and disappointed at the same time. Having a killer indie on your new system is a huge win, especially since this is a temporary console exclusive. At the same time, it doesn’t look that graphically different from the first game, so why isn’t it on older hardware?

Thankfully, the folks at Supergiant Games have confirmed that this sequel is also coming to Nintendo’s original Switch. Naturally, this move was met with a lot of positivity, as fans won’t have to upgrade to a new console right away in order to play this amazing roguelite.

Anytime new hardware is announced, fans are always counting down the days until their older system is obsolete. For example, Sony’s PlayStation 4 is still getting some support, but the lack of major exclusives and third-party games is signaling the end for that console. Since the Switch 2 is coming out, fans are anxiously waiting for the time when they’ll need to upgrade and play $70 or $80 games.

Now that we know Hades 2 is coming to original hardware in addition to Switch 2, that anxious wait just became a lot more tolerable. Fans spent hundreds of hours playing the original game on Switch, so it’s easy to assume that they will do the same for the sequel. PC players have already given their seal of approval for the sequel and this game is somehow still in Early Access.

Like its predecessor, Hades 2 continues that satisfying gameplay loop of killing enemies and bonding with really hot versions of the Greek Gods. Melinoe, the sister of the first game’s lead Zagreus, has plenty of new weapons to choose from. There are also new Gods who will give Melinoe new power-ups and interesting advice.

Everyone’s been pretty hard on Nintendo lately and that criticism is deserved, but the company is also releasing games for their older hardware. Many of us assumed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond would be the older system’s swan song, but the company is releasing a new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream in 2026. That’s no Mario or Zelda, but those are still forgotten IP titles getting another chance at life, so it’s hard to complain.

Fans do know that the original Switch is officially on borrowed time, with only a few exclusives left coming to this system. We already discussed Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life, but the rumored Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports could always happen. Some Nintendo fans also think Yoshi’s Woolly World could be coming to Switch, thanks to an error or easter egg from the Switch 2 Direct.

Beyond those games though, the end is near. At least Hades 2 will be with us to make that wait more entertaining and sexy.
