Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - REV System Explained

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves doesn't just follow the original; it gives Mark of the Wolves a whole new spin with some game-changing systems.

The REV System is what's behind the game's sharpest moves, tight combos, and key defenses.

Unlike traditional meter systems, this one rewards momentum penalizes overreach and makes meter management a mind game in its own right.

If you're curious about what makes REV stand out, here's a breakdown of how it works.

What Is the REV System?

Rather than giving you more power as you fill the meter, the REV System gets stronger by keeping control.

Your REV meter fills up as you perform actions like REV Arts, REV Accel, or REV Blow. If you push beyond your limit, you'll overheat and disable all REV abilities until they cool back down.

The risk-and-reward factor is key to this new fighting experience. The REV meter acts as a reservoir for a full range of abilities. The REV Blow is one of the most dramatic tools in the REV system.

This is a hard-hitting move with armor, meaning it can withstand enemy blows while delivering a clean strike. REV Blows work on the ground or in midair, and they turn into a major threat when you're in the S.P.G. (Selective Potential Gear) zone.

These attacks also break the flow, giving you a quick reversal when things get heated. But the more you use a REV ability, the closer you get to Overheating. It's not just a cooldown; overheating fundamentally changes your approach to the game.

When the REV meter is maxed, you're locked out of all REV-dependent moves. As if that wasn't enough, your guard gauge is now at risk. Typically, the guard gauge doesn't drain from blocking alone, but it can break during Overheat.

In that case, you're an easy target, no matter where you are on screen. When you need support, REV Guard has got you covered. It's a pushblock that creates distance between you and your opponent while completely negating chip damage (which, yes, can kill in this game).

REV Guard works well when you're trapped or need to reset the distance, but using it depletes your REV meter each time. REV mechanics also interact closely with the S.P.G. system. Before each match, you choose which part of your health bar will become your "power zone"—the start, middle, or end.

When your health dips into that zone, you enter the S.P.G. state. This provides a health regen boost, increased damage, and unlocks powerful abilities like REV Blow and the Hidden Gear (a two-bar cinematic super).

REV helps you pull off your best moves, and S.P.G. is the time to make them faster, stronger, and game-changing. If you want to understand more about how S.P.G. works and why it replaces the old T.O.P. system, here's our guide to check out.
