Donkey Kong Bananza is a few days away from release, and Switch 2 owners are pretty excited to try this 3D platformer out. Looking like Super Mario Odyssey on steroids, it’s clear that this is a must-have exclusive for owners of Nintendo’s new console. However, some fans noticed a few performance drops, which concerned many for some reason.

Kazuya Takahashi, the director of Bananza, confirmed that there are a few performance drops while speaking with Spanish site Lavanguardia (via Nintendo Everything). Takahashi said that they experimented with some graphical effects, but prioritized having fun overall, even if there are tiny bits of slowdown.

Here’s what the Donkey Kong Bananza director had to say about it:

While there are times when performance issues can kill a game, they tend to be a minor quibble for the most part. Everything we’ve seen from Bananza so far has looked pretty good, with reviews for the 3D platformer coming soon to give us the verdict on performance. Admittedly, it is a bit sad when a premiere exclusive has some performance issues, but that shouldn’t matter if they aren’t consistent and don’t ruin the game.

It will be interesting to see if Donkey Kong Bananza becomes the next must-have Switch 2 exclusive next to Mario Kart World. The fact that this game was originally considered as a Switch game seems like a pipe dream now, even with that GameShare feature. Now that the game is a Switch 2 exclusive, we're sure it's going to perform better than it ever could on that older system.
