Crash Bandicoot continues to be one of the most popular platformer mascots ever created. Fans were hoping he was going to be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the character was unfortunately never added. It looks like fans will do what Nintendo did not, as the Smash Remix fan mod is adding Crash to the game.
Smash Remix has been a popular mod of the original N64 game, adding more playable fighters and new stages. When compared to the original N64 game, this is a much beefier package and fans have been enjoying the consistent additions. The new 2.0 update has arrived, adding both Princess Peach and the aforementioned Crash Bandicoot.
Despite the N64 visuals, the developers were able to get Crash’s move set correctly. The PS1 mascot jumps like he did in those original games, and he also has the slide that’s usually done for higher bounces. Even better, he has the classic tornado attack that’s usually a one-hit kill to normal enemies, but is a strong attack in this mod.
This interpretation of Crash Bandicoot in Smash Remix is amazing and makes us wish he was in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Since the character is no longer exclusive to PlayStation, he would be the perfect character to add in a modern Smash installment. While the character is now an Xbox property, that brand has been pretty generous with sharing, so that can happen again.
Crash Bandicoot hasn’t had the best luck in video games lately. Although Crash Bandicoot 4 was a critical success, Activision Blizzard didn’t greenlight a fifth game that would feature a Spyro cameo. The character’s HD trilogy and CTR remake are best-sellers, so seeing Activision bench this franchise has been disappointing.
We may never get an official Crash Bandicoot character in Super Smash Bros., but at least we’ll have him in Smash Remix. This is update 2.0 and we’re sure more characters will be added in the future.
