Ever wanted to play a JRPG with 2D fighting game combat? Then A Fighter's Nova: Mindara will sound like a dream come true to you.
Developer BadRez Games is a small indie studio that caught my eye when they released the trailer for Mindara just last week. At its core, the game is a JRPG with storytelling inspired by Ranma ½, Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and HunterXHunter. Dynamic manga panels are used to tell the story of Maya and Mindara, two determined fighters who find themselves competing in a legendary tournament within a hidden magical city.
That alone sounds incredible. Then you get into the combat aspect of the gameplay: a 2D tag fighter with mechanics that will not only satisfy fighting game fans, but those looking for a deep JRPG experience with plenty of characters to form bonds with. Each of the playable characters will have unique skills, with more being unlocked depending on your relationship level with some of them.
While Mindara offers a deep 2D tag fighter combat system, it's also accommodating to newcomers of the genre who perhaps might enjoy the JRPG portion of the game without being too knowledgeable about fighting games, with the addition of modern controls helping fighting game newcomers have an easier time getting into the game.
What's even cooler is that Mindara will borrow some of that 2XKO duos magic, allowing players to experience the story in full co-op, with each controlling a specific character in combat.
The only downside of the project at the moment is that its earliest potential release year is 2028. There is a Kickstarter page coming soon where you can directly support the studio, which includes industry veterans who have previously worked at Bethesda, Ubisoft, and Isthar.
And that's it. Stick with us at Gfinityesports.com: your go-to source for all things fighting games.
